Maritime Medicine
Thanks to the maritime relevance of Panama and its interoceanic canal, since 1973 we have worked in the maritime medicine field, achieving innovation and specialty levels; we participate actively in the international medical and related services community, providing welfare to the seafarers, by means of what nowadays is known in the developed countries as “traveller’s medicine” or traveller disease prevention. We are founding members of IMHA (International Maritime Health Association), which in turn collaborates with other international organizations such as IMO (International Maritime Organization), ILO (International Labour Organization) and WHO (World Health Organization).
We prepare, inspect and certificate medical chests aboard ships from different flag states, according to international medical regulations. We also coordinate, prepare and supervise urine or blood collections for drug test, in accordance with US federal and non federal procedures, even boarding if necessary. Because we offer remote medical assistance to ships, we are always updated in telecommunication technologies (Telemedicine), from the short wave radio era, through the telegraph, telex, fax, modem, until satellite communication and the present cellular and internet facilities. This has brought us great results and satisfaction. Taking risks, we bring a qualified hoping voice to patients and seafarers, in the most difficult and distressing moments in the sea vastness. This activity has allowed us to organize evacuations and escorts by air, sea and ground, so we have been able to offer to our physicians and collaborators, opportunities to travel to countries like Nigeria, Bangladesh, Philippines, South Korea, Poland, Ireland, United States of America, Hong Kong, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Russia, Canada, Germany, India, Ukraine, England, Kenia, Taiwan, Israel, Greece, Portugal and Turkey, among others. |
